when we were young

what I mean by young is

a bit younger than the mirror suggests

we’d get out and play

in the stadiums of world cup heroes

in the fields of imaginary armies

on the tracks of glory

full pelt down the staircase

a bruise was but a badge of pride

 when we were kids

we were unafraid of death

it was just a game over message

you could go again

I’ve never been to the moon or walked the stars

I’ve danced in nightclubs, drank in bars

feet firmly on the ground

whilst the earth is turning round

Can you read me?

I’m tripping on the fancy free

re-living all we used to be

and wondering when it all became reality..

Late morning left asunder

room filled with golden wonder

it’s our time to come alive

Turn over roll in clover

Our melt will soon be over

Feel the buzz inside your hive

and I’m sure that we’ve sprinkled the seeds of spring

got an inkling this movement might change everything

he said it’s normal

she wasn’t feeling well

he said it’s winter

she coughed

he squinted into the encroaching gloom

they didn’t see the dome rat

the dome rat knew they were there

she said let’s go now

he said wait a minute you’re always in a hurry

she said have it your own way

he muttered something vague

she sniffed

he shuffled

the dome rat was silent

the dome rat was at home

she knocked over a tin can

he swore at her

she complained meekly

he laughed at her

she didn’t care

he couldn’t see her

the dome rat could

the dome rat was silent

she sighed and made for the door

he banged around on the drums

she lit a cigarette outside

he asked for a drag

she said let’s go now

he said ok

the dome rat was listening

the dome rat stayed

gifts which are unwrapped

open for all to admire

bring the greatest joy

down there sparkle lights
invisible high above
the ice winds punish

This is my first attempt at Haiku. I must nod to Chevrefeuille  whom I visited online.. and was inspited to try it..

you don’t need to talk now

taste this tender moment with the tip of your tongue

you don’t need to talk now

every time I inch towards deliverance

you don’t need to talk now

enclosed in your cosy cluster of care

you don’t need to talk now

let me sigh

let your shoulders shiver

I won’t leave you here

in a pool of tranquility

I can sense a sea change

in your vulnerability

we don’t need to talk now

me to be strong

a shattering second

where it all just goes wrong

a moment of happiness

swept right aside

a month of sweet sundays

with a book at my side

you find some you lose some

you hold on too tight

for some you will weep so

for others you’ll fight

and all of my mondays are much and the same

and all of my fridays are out on the game

then a tap on my shoulder

so I turn round and see

the smiling enchantress

as she throws away the key

come in and talk to the mourners
they’re wasting the hours of another day

that the gas plant is going to blow

gunpowder Lily has a drink in her hand

saxophone Charlie owes the gaffer a grand

feel the night owls itching  for a fight

made of tougher leather round here

and I ain’t even tasted my beer

One’s coming over scowling at me

Cos I’ve invaded their damned privacy

Man you’d think the locals were the only breed

that cashed in tourism on their tumbleweed

their sort never have mouths to feed

it ain’t safe round here I hear

and I ain’t even half down this beer 

The jukebox been broke  since day one

don’t charge anything for its song 

and it’s gathering dust to the tune of a busker

that earns his few coins for the grunts he can muster

I tell you his voice is as rough as my boots

yet these creatures continue to leer

and I’m feeling the effects of my beer

Wendy’s got one foot right out of her shoe

torn tights of days gone seems proud of them too

Wandering Joe’ says he’ll move on by next May

Lenny laughs sunshine that’ll be the day

when he buys the wheels to get him out of this town

I can feel the haze floating just near

and I’m onto my next last cold beer 

and you may well tell me that I’ve jumped in too soon

for the way that you’ve been looking down on the world

rings a bell in my head of how it’s going to unfurl

now I’m feeling so dizzy I’m up to my eyes

in a fleeting sensation of strawberry skies

the red lights are flashing as your mouth forms your words

in a blur like a monkey speaking chirrups of birds

now I haven’t a clue what to do

absurdity chases reality around the room

my rational order is juxtapose

in the mirror I’m wearing the emperor’s clothes

did they tell you about the red sky in the morning?
