contemplation

think it’s foolish sometimes too

think it’s old-fashioned think it’s dated

think it’s romance think it’s quaint

but you’re never too old to live

as you wish you’d always done

and you’re never too young to feel

that you’re having too much fun

so I tell you again and I’ll tell you once more

these thoughts are worth contemplating

don’t waste your time debating

Here’s a toast to eternal dreams,

the candle bends and flickers,

the gale it chills and lashes,

the night it looms and covers,

the stars they wink upon us,

the moon it watches over,

the glass is almost empty yet oh so full..

The moon says “drink to me in my lofty sky,

drink to her in your mind’s eye,

use me as a tracer light,

seek me as your bearing tonight..

we navigate this starry sea,

we contemplate catastrophe,

yet never failing you and me”

for we have mutual empathy”

as it runs down the curve of your silken form

pausing on your nipple

before free-falling into oblivion below

I would be the crisp sheet

as it holds you close through harsh arctic nights

harbouring within your hinterland

accompanying the rhythm of your breast

we giggle to ourselves when he collapses on the ground

takes the early steps on life’s great marathon today

because the universe won’t have it any other way

it may take precious time up to come to terms with us

and I find you’ve grown up now as everybody does

there are other doors to open don’t you be afraid

there’s no point in dwelling on if we should’ve stayed

and I find myself humming melodies

takes a large wave nowadays to bring me to my knees

if I missed a thankyou then I will beg you please

that we carry on just as we are

that we savour what’s brought us this far

look up and you’ll see me

I’m shooting angel dust from my star

when we were young

what I mean by young is

a bit younger than the mirror suggests

we’d get out and play

in the stadiums of world cup heroes

in the fields of imaginary armies

on the tracks of glory

full pelt down the staircase

a bruise was but a badge of pride

 when we were kids

we were unafraid of death

it was just a game over message

you could go again

I’ve never been to the moon or walked the stars

I’ve danced in nightclubs, drank in bars

feet firmly on the ground

whilst the earth is turning round

Can you read me?

I’m tripping on the fancy free

re-living all we used to be

and wondering when it all became reality..

Late morning left asunder

room filled with golden wonder

it’s our time to come alive

Turn over roll in clover

Our melt will soon be over

Feel the buzz inside your hive

and I’m sure that we’ve sprinkled the seeds of spring

got an inkling this movement might change everything

he said it’s normal

she wasn’t feeling well

he said it’s winter

she coughed

he squinted into the encroaching gloom

they didn’t see the dome rat

the dome rat knew they were there

she said let’s go now

he said wait a minute you’re always in a hurry

she said have it your own way

he muttered something vague

she sniffed

he shuffled

the dome rat was silent

the dome rat was at home

she knocked over a tin can

he swore at her

she complained meekly

he laughed at her

she didn’t care

he couldn’t see her

the dome rat could

the dome rat was silent

she sighed and made for the door

he banged around on the drums

she lit a cigarette outside

he asked for a drag

she said let’s go now

he said ok

the dome rat was listening

the dome rat stayed

gifts which are unwrapped

open for all to admire

bring the greatest joy

down there sparkle lights
invisible high above
the ice winds punish

This is my first attempt at Haiku. I must nod to Chevrefeuille  whom I visited online.. and was inspited to try it..

taste this tender moment with the tip of your tongue

every time I inch towards deliverance

you don’t need to talk now

enclosed in your cosy cluster of care

you don’t need to talk now

let me sigh

let your shoulders shiver

I won’t leave you here

in a pool of tranquility

I can sense a sea change

in your vulnerability
